Talking BITs: Emotional Support Animals
Date: September 9, 2022 | 2:00pm-3:00pm ET
The number of emotional support animals on college campuses is increasing and BITs need to understand the basic laws that guide the decisions being made about ESAs, as well as how BITs might be involved in offering additional support to students with disabilities. In this session we will cover the differences between ESAs/service animals/pets and discuss how campuses should be addressing questions like, “What if an ESA needs an ESA?” Join the presenters for this presentation and interactive discussion about animals on campus.
NABITA is a mission-based association that holds deeply our values of equity on the basis of sex, gender, inclusion, safety, and belongingness for all. With the wave of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation in many states, NABITA, along with its sister association, ATIXA, would like to pull together the community to discuss the current legislation and its implications for today’s youth. Drawing on many of the sentiments covered in our recent association statements, the presenters will cover a breadth of topics ranging from legislative overview, mental health, and other social justice issues.
