Description

Talking BITs: Maximizing Policy through the use of a Policy Capacity Framework
October 14, 2022 | 2:00pm-3:00pm ET

Presenter: S. Nicole Ferguson, Ph.D., Director of Compliance and Title IX Coordinator, Colorado State University Pueblo

Description: Developing policy to guide our practice in a behavioral intervention team can oftentimes seem like a cumbersome process. Alternatively, you may have a policy that seems "good enough" without the resources or support to make changes. In this Talking BITs Session, Dr. S. Nicole Ferguson will walk participants through an understanding of policy capacity to determine where to begin and if current policies are maximizing their potential, the stakeholders needed for strong policy development, an ideal/model policy using the key elements necessary based on NABITA Standards, and some of the pitfalls or failures of improper policy development related to BITs.

NABITA is a mission-based association that holds deeply our values of equity on the basis of sex, gender, inclusion, safety, and belongingness for all. With the wave of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation in many states, NABITA, along with its sister association, ATIXA, would like to pull together the community to discuss the current legislation and its implications for today’s youth. Drawing on many of the sentiments covered in our recent association statements, the presenters will cover a breadth of topics ranging from legislative overview, mental health, and other social justice issues.
