Talking BITs: Mental Health Wellness Abroad

We know the challenges we face supporting students who struggle with issues of mental health, both diagnosed and undiagnosed while on campus, it goes without saying that the challenges and concerns increase as students travel and learn abroad. There are ways we can begin to anticipate how students will be challenged in their accumulation studying abroad. This Talking BITs will discuss what universities can do to assist students to better prepare and to train the staff/faculty on the ground while aboard. We will discuss culture shock, identifying triggers and engaging in dialogue with a student to establish baseline behaviors to name a few. Gone are the days of hoping for the best as we send students off to an immersive experience but to prepare ourselves and students' regarding their mental health and learning abroad.
