Addressing COVID Rage

Monday, September 21, 2020
2pm-3:30pm ET

In recent months, there has been a massive rise in the amount of stress individuals are managing. There have been case after case of individuals upset about the lack of government direction on the pandemic, frustration over the inconsistency about rules around masks and social distancing, and people who have been in compliance with social distancing and wearing masks who become extremely frustrated at those who are not following the rules.

Masks have become a visual representation of the country’s political divide. Many are experience unprecedented levels of stress, uncertainty, and fear. This creates a perfect storm of frustration that will quickly come into the classroom setting. Dr. Van Brunt and Jeff Solomon will share with participants the importance of understanding the difference between affective/emotional violence and more related mission-oriented violence that is premeditated and often planned prior to a large attack. Drawing from over 50 years of experience teaching crisis de-escalation from psychology and law enforcement perspectives, Brian and Jeff will clearly explain the issue at hand, discuss ways to prevent conflict and engage students prior to violence.
